Overhead cranes - repair and maintenance
What is a crane?
Overhead cranes are cranes that operate in intermittent motion. They consist of a support structure running along rails and a hoist or lifting device running alongside it. They are designed to move loads vertically and horizontally, in a space limited by the lifting height, the extreme positions of the trajectory of the hoist and the crane. They come in a variety of designs, differing in purpose and the equipment used.
Overhead cranes have been described as the backbone of industry. They enable the handling and transport of heavy oversized loads in warehouses, workplaces and construction sites. They are also used in shipyards, industrial plants and any other place with enabled functionality, stability and significant lifting capacity.
Types of cranes
There are the following types of cranes:
- overhead travelling cranes,
- gantry cranes,
- cantilever cranes,
- column cranes,
- half gates,
- overhead travelling cranes,
Need to maintain cranes
By offering gantry crane servicing, we ensure that legal requirements are met while extending the life of the lifting equipment. By law, all gantry cranes, cable hoists and chain hoists, should be serviced in accordance with:
- Ordinance of the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology of 21 May 2019 on the procedure and manner of verifying qualifications that are required for the maintenance and operation of technical equipment and the procedure and manner of extending the validity of qualification certificates,
- Ordinance of the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology of 2018 on the technical conditions of technical supervision in the operation of modernisation, operation and repair of handling equipment.
According to the former document, the required frequency of maintenance inspection for a general-purpose crane with manual drive is at least once every ninety days. On the other hand, special-purpose cranes that have a mechanical drive should have such an inspection at least once every thirty days. Of course, it may be that the manufacturer has recommended more frequent maintenance. This is particularly important for those pieces of equipment that are used intensively.
