The basic and specialised training in the profession of motor vehicle diagnostician is intended for those who have knowledge and practice at a vehicle service station or in a vehicle repair workshop in a vehicle service or repair position.

Requirements according to the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 4 November 2004 on detailed requirements for diagnosticians the student must:

  • have a higher technical education degree in a motor vehicle specialisation and documented 2 years' experience in a vehicle repair workshop or a service station in a vehicle repair or maintenance position
  • have a secondary technical education in the field of motor vehicles and documented 4 years of practice in a vehicle repair or service station in a vehicle repair or service position
  • hold a university degree in a field other than motor vehicle engineering and have 4 years' proven experience in a vehicle repair or maintenance centre in a vehicle repair or maintenance position
  • have a secondary technical education in a field other than motor vehicle specialisation and 8 years' proven experience in a vehicle repair workshop or in a vehicle service station in a vehicle repair or maintenance position

The law also defines the thematic content of the course, which consists of five parts:
I. Basic training for conducting periodic technical inspections of vehicles - evaluation of the correct functioning of systems and components, including as regards driving safety and environmental protection
II. Specific training for technical examination of buses with a maximum speed limit for expressways and motorways of 100 km/h
III. Specific training on technical inspection of vehicles carrying ADR dangerous goods
IV. Specific training on gas-fuelled vehicles
V. Specific training on technical testing of used and foreign-registered cars, cars referred for testing by traffic control authorities or the district governor, cars with structural changes, SAM cars
