  • powered stacker trucks with mechanical lifting mechanism, excluding reach trucks and straddle carriers.

Forklift truck applications

Forklifts are used to transport the loads needed for all major industries around the world - from grocery shops to large manufacturing companies. There are different types of forklifts on the market that companies can use. Their classification depends on their purpose, weight and also their drive. Each has an essential function, which is to transport goods from one place to another and to different heights without the need for human hands, which aims to reduce the risk of injury.

Types and characteristics of forklift trucks

Internal combustion forklift trucks most often use diesel as their fuel, but you can also find LPG-powered forklifts on the market. You can only use this type of equipment in the open due to the significant emissions into the environment. Gas (LPG) forklifts are an economical option compared to electric forklifts. However, they are only recommended for outdoor use. Electric forklifts are also known as battery forklifts. They are ideal for use in halls and warehouses as they meet all safety standards. They also excel in small spaces as they are comfortable, loadable and manoeuvrable. Their engine is much smaller than in other types of forklifts. Taking into account the variety of work required and the weight of the goods to be moved, we can distinguish between different types of forklift by:

  •  type of drive - electric, diesel and manual,
  •  steering method - operator-guided, platform trucks steered from a platform on the truck, remotely steered by an automation system, as well as trucks with a driver's seat.

Three-wheel and four-wheel trolleys, are by far the most stable and are designed for more warehouse work. When choosing the right trolley, you should take into account, among other things: how often it will be used, what functions it will perform in your company, and what activities it will be used for.

Forklift truck construction

the machine is in storage

In their design, all trolleys have the same parts. The most important component is the mast for lifting the load. Together with the faceplate, forks and chain, it forms the basic lifting system. Each forklift truck has a frame, chassis and brake system, a counterweight and a drive block. The steering wheel, lever and pedals allow efficient control of the vehicle. Some types also include a roof guard to increase operator safety. A properly fitted mast ensures that the load can be safely lifted to the required height. This allows the operator to lift the forks carrying the load or pallet efficiently. Modern technology has made this process quicker and the work involved in storing and picking loads much easier, with a positive effect on the efficiency of warehouse and materials handling.
