Suspended platforms - rope-supported working platforms used for work on the facades of buildingsThe classes we organise in our centre are aimed at preparing candidates for the suspended platforms operators not only for the UDT exam, but also for their future work. We attach great importance to practical learning of equipment operation, focusing on safety issues to reduce the risk of accidents at work. The course, which ends with an external exam, is a way to gain professional qualifications that are welcomed by employers in the construction and renovation industry.

Hanging platform

Suspended platforms are a type of mobile platform in which the working platform (basket) is suspended from special beams fixed to the roof of the building.

Construction

The standard working platform of this type of equipment is mounted temporarily on the roofs of buildings. Unlike self-propelled or free-running mobile platforms, there is no possibility to control the position of the basket. It is possible to change its position by lowering or lifting it by means of cables.

The most important components that make up the hanging platform are:

  • Lifting and safety cables
  • Friction winch
  • Grasping apparatus
  • Platform balustrade
  • Running wheel of the work platform
  • Working platform floor
  • Hanger
  • Bumper roller

Application

These types of platforms are designed for outdoor use. They are used to transport people and tools to workstations. They are most often used during facade painting, insulation of buildings, facade cleaning, window cleaning, inspection activities.

Suspended mobile platform according to UDT

According to the categorisation of the Office of Technical Inspection, these types of platforms are included in category II P (until 1.06.2020). According to the new guidelines, the qualification ranges for operators are as follows:

  • Stationary mobile lifting platforms (10-year licence)
  • Hanging mobile platforms (10 years)
(authorisation to operate suspended and fixed access platforms)
  • Mobile mast platforms (10 years)
(authorisation to operate mobile masts and fixed platforms)
  • Mobile lifting platforms (10 years)
  • Platforms on railway vehicles (5 years)

All this equipment is subject to technical supervision.

Suspended access qualifications for mobile lifts

Work with this type of equipment requires UDT certification of qualifications. The licence is granted to candidates for operators who pass the theoretical part (a test with closed questions) and the practical part (with the device on the manoeuvring area). Qualification UDT category II P are issued for 5 years. They are valid throughout Poland, but may also be honoured abroad, depending on the regulations of the country in question.

Content coverage

The aim of the classes is to prepare participants for the UDT exam. The training is conducted in the scope corresponding to examination requirements specified by the Office.

Participants acquire knowledge in the safe operation of suspended platforms, details of the construction of these devices, preparation for work, the use of personal and collective protective equipment in accordance with the regulations, carrying out tests and inspections and technical supervision regulations. The training is a combination of lectures delivered by experienced instructors of the Centre and practical classes during which the trainees learn how to operate the equipment and how to use it safely.

The range of issues covered in the training may vary for different groups, depending on the training needs of the participants.

Examination

Each training course ends with an exam passed in front of an appropriate UDT commission (Warsaw or - in case of other locations - one of the branches). The Centre organizes the exam for trainees - a candidate for an operator does not have to register with the UDT on his own or take the exam. Verification of qualifications takes place after the completion of theoretical and practical classes, usually within 30 working days.

Practical information

  • Class dates: Current dates are published on our website. Classes usually start at 1- or 2-week intervals
